Tastes of Home

Product Description

It tells the stories of giving and receiving hospitality through the lens of the food we choose to share. Highlighting the voices of Auckland University of Technology students from refugee/migrant backgrounds, this book captures the essence of welcome, family traditions and a new sense of community and identity for people who now call New Zealand their home.

Whilst much of the media portrays the negative narratives of the refugee journey, the recipes and stories shared in this cookbook serve to capture the richness, vibrancy, smiles and successes of our AUT refugee background student community. This book is a vehicle that shines a light on the diversity of our future leaders of New Zealand, particularly those from refugee backgrounds.

This book was made possible by the contributions of AUT’s inclusive student and staff community – culinary arts students tested the recipes provided by our refugee/migrant students’ families, journalism students put the stories together, and alumni and staff captured the beautiful photography.

Format: hardcover, 144pp, illustrated

All proceeds from the sale of this book will go towards creating a scholarship fund for young people from refugee/migrant backgrounds to enable them to enrol in a degree at AUT.
