Introduction to Strength and Balance Training for Older Adults: Instructors Course


Product Description

The course introduces key concepts for people supporting older adults as they participate in physical activity and exercise.

A) Online teaching modules cover the following topics:

  1. Setting the scene

  2. Review of basic anatomy

  3. Changes in the body with ageing

  4. Common health issues

  5. Common medications

  6. Health & fitness screening

  7. Teaching & leadership

  8. Programme delivery


B) Practical Workshop

On completion of the online component, there is a 2 day workshop exploring practical aspects of exercise for older clients, including screening tools, assessments, exercise options and contraindications, class delivery and health and safety.

When: Online component: this will be available from 13th January 2020

Practical workshop: Saturday 29th February and 7th March 2020 @ AUT
