Many thanks to everyone who participated in the AUT T-shirt design competition.

We are pleased to announce Erich Roebeck has taken out first, second and third place. Well done and congratulations!

His first winning design, “A Little Fruity” is available for sale in the AUT Shop for $35.

His second design “Dandy Afro” and third design “Bloomin Powerful” will be in store shortly and will also retail for $35.

Erich is a first year student studying digital design and has focused all his designs on female characters and nature.

Background on the designs:

1st place: “A Little Fruity”. Erich mainly likes to draw female characters and also has an appreciation of nature. He wanted to incorporate some iconic kiwi food images- kiwifruit and feijoa. He has included daisies to accentuate the nature theme. He was inspired by someone he knew who loved nature- a free spirit. So his design includes a hippy-esque girl with daisies in her hair, around her neck and an awesome pair of fruity glasses.

2nd place: His love of female characters and nature saw the two themes come together perfectly here. The design is timely as we move from Spring to Summer so “Dandy Afro” has born. Erich had the idea for this design previously but had never fully developed it. The AUT T-shirt design completion gave him the chance to work on it.

3rd place: Still with the theme of women, nature and an illustrative style, this design incorporates pohutukawa and kowhai flowers. The woman is warrior-esque or maybe even post-apocalyptic. This design is called “Bloomin Powerful”.

Artists can submit as many designs as they want with each entry. All entries must be original designs that have not been used previously as a t-shirt print or on any item of clothing. (Original artwork that has been used in print form in other media is acceptable as long as the submitter can prove that it is indeed their original work if need be).

The entries ideally will be in digital form, preferably an AI file (illustrator file) layered pdf, or layered PSD (add size/dimensions). Under certain circumstances we will accept an actual illustration, but as a rule we don’t accept paper entries.

Importantly you must take into account the screen printing process - the less colours the better. If your design is made up of too many colours it may influence our decision.

Email submissions to including the subject heading: AUT t-shirt competition 2016. If the file is too big, please use drop box, or a similar file sharing supply artwork. If you attach large file and send via email we may not receive it
